Gattr Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

Gattr is a recipe app made by Betelgeuse Studio LLC ("we", "us"). It turns links to recipe videos and web pages into recipe cards, and helps you organise them, plan meals and share with friends. This policy explains what information Gattr uses, why, which companies help us run it, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, write to us at hello@betelgeuse.studio.

The short version

  • Your recipes live in your Gattr account. Recipes, folders, meal plans, follows and the images you upload are stored with our database provider, Supabase, so they are there on every device. You can also use Gattr as a guest.
  • Importing sends the link to our import server. It fetches the content behind the link and uses AI to turn it into a recipe.
  • Some things are visible to other people. Your username and profile photo can be found by other users. Your privacy setting decides whether they can see your folders and recipes.
  • Gattr shows no ads. We use AppsFlyer to measure which of our own marketing brings people to Gattr, and RevenueCat to manage subscriptions.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and you can delete your account in Account Settings.

1. Your account

You can use Gattr in three ways:

  • As a guest. When you skip sign-up, Gattr creates an anonymous account for you with Supabase. It has a random ID and no e-mail or name, and your recipes, folders and meal plans are stored under it. Some features, such as your profile and Account Settings, need a full account. If you then sign up with an e-mail address and password, your guest account becomes your full account and keeps your recipes.
  • With an e-mail address and password. We store your e-mail address; your password is stored by Supabase in hashed form, never in readable form. We send you e-mails that your account needs, such as a link to confirm your e-mail address.
  • With Sign in with Apple or Google. Apple or Google tells us your e-mail address (with Apple you can choose to hide it behind a relay address) and may share basic profile details, such as your name or profile picture. We use them only to create and run your account.

Each account has a random account ID. Gattr uses it to keep your data together, and it is shared with some of the services described below, as explained in each section.

2. What Gattr stores

In your account (with Supabase):

What Examples Who can see it in the app
Account E-mail address, sign-in method, account ID Only you
Profile Username, profile photo, privacy setting, which folders are public Username and photo: other Gattr users. Settings: only you
Recipes Title, ingredients, steps, cooking time, servings, notes, rating, favourites, category, nutrition values, link to the original post or page, image, the original creator's name where available Depends on your privacy setting (section 4)
Folders Name, icon, cover image and the recipes in them Depends on your privacy setting (section 4)
Meal plans Dates, meals, planned recipes or your own entries, what you have ticked off Only you
Follows Who you follow, who follows you, pending requests You and the other person

Images you upload (recipe images, folder covers and your profile photo) are stored with Supabase at a web address that is not password-protected: anyone who has the link can open the image. Please don't upload photos you want to keep private.

On your device only: your sign-in session, your language and display preferences, your answers to the onboarding questions (how you save recipes, how often you cook and so on), your plan status and monthly import count, a cache of ingredient translations, and a link you shared to Gattr from another app until it is imported.

3. Importing recipes and nutrition

Importing a recipe. When you paste a link, or share one to Gattr from another app (for example TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook or a recipe website), Gattr sends the following to our import server:

  • the link;
  • your app language, so the recipe comes back in it;
  • your account ID, so the recipe is saved in your account;
  • a push notification token, if you allowed notifications, so we can tell you when the recipe is ready (section 5);
  • technical identifiers for the request.

The server fetches the publicly available content at that link and passes it to an AI model from a third-party AI provider, which extracts the recipe (ingredients, steps, times and so on). The result is saved in your account. Our server may keep a record of import requests, including the link and your account ID, to run and troubleshoot the service.

Nutrition (Unlimited plan). When you ask for nutrition information, Gattr sends the recipe's ingredient list, its number of servings and your account ID to the same server, which estimates nutrition values (this may also use AI). The values are saved with your recipe.

Clipboard. Gattr reads your clipboard only when you tap the paste button on the import screen.

Ingredient pictures. To show a picture next to each ingredient, Gattr loads images from public food image libraries (TheMealDB and Spoonacular), using the ingredient's name in the request. If your app language is not English, ingredient names are first translated into English with the MyMemory translation service. Only ingredient names (and, for translation, the language pair) are sent for this, never your account details. Like any web request, these services see your device's IP address.

4. Social features and sharing

  • Search. Other Gattr users can find you by username and see your username and profile photo. Please choose a username that doesn't reveal personal details you want to keep private.
  • Following. Someone who wants to follow you sends a request, which you can accept or decline.
  • Your profile. People you are connected with through follows can open your profile. What they can see depends on Account Settings → Privacy Settings: Private (no folders or recipes), Public (your folders and the recipes in them) or Custom (only the folders you pick).
  • Sharing a recipe. When you tap Share on a recipe, Gattr creates a link with AppsFlyer's OneLink service so the recipe opens in Gattr, even for someone who installs the app from the link. The link contains the original recipe link, the recipe title and your account ID, so anyone you send it to can see them. You decide whether and where to send it.
  • Discover. The Discover tab shows recipes picked by the Gattr team.

5. Notifications

Gattr asks for permission to send you notifications. If you allow them, your device receives a push token from Expo, the push notification service we use, which delivers notifications through Apple's and Google's push services. We use it to tell you about your account activity, for example when an imported recipe is ready. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

6. Measuring our marketing (AppsFlyer)

Gattr does not show ads. We do advertise Gattr on other apps and websites, and we use AppsFlyer to find out which campaigns bring people to Gattr and how the app is used afterwards.

  • What AppsFlyer receives. Information about your device and the install (such as device model, operating system, language, IP address and an ID created by AppsFlyer), and these events in the app: app opens, sign-ups and log-ins (and the method used), recipes you view or save (recipe ID and title), searches for people (the search text), recipe imports (recipe ID and the imported link), recipe shares, and purchases or trial starts (product, price and currency).
  • Linked to your account. When you are signed in with a full account, Gattr gives AppsFlyer your account ID, so these events are linked to your account. As a guest, no account ID is sent.
  • On iOS, Gattr shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt when you first open it. The current version of Gattr for iOS uses AppsFlyer's "Strict Mode" SDK, which does not collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), whatever you answer. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
  • On Android, AppsFlyer may collect your device's advertising ID. You can reset or delete it, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).

7. Subscriptions (RevenueCat)

Gattr has a Free plan and an Unlimited subscription. Subscriptions are bought through the App Store or Google Play, which process the payment. We never receive your name, card or billing details from them. RevenueCat helps us check which plan you have and restore it on a new device. It receives purchase information from the store (product, transaction and renewal status), basic device and app information, and an ID for you: your Gattr account ID when you are signed in, or an anonymous ID created by RevenueCat otherwise.

8. Who helps us run Gattr

AppsFlyer Marketing measurement and share links See section 6
RevenueCat Subscription status See section 7
Apple and Google Sign-in, payments, push delivery What you share with them when you sign in or pay
MyMemory, TheMealDB, Spoonacular Ingredient translations and pictures Ingredient names

These providers handle data under their own terms and privacy policies, and may process it outside your country, including in the United States. We share with them only what they need to do their job for us.

9. Device permissions

  • Photos: Gattr asks for access when you choose an image for a recipe, a folder or your profile. It only uploads the images you pick.
  • Notifications: see section 5.
  • Tracking (iOS): see section 6.
  • Share sheet: Gattr appears in your share sheet so you can send it a link from another app. It only receives what you choose to share.
  • Internet, billing and advertising ID (Android): to connect to our services, to buy a subscription through Google Play, and for AppsFlyer as described in section 6.

Gattr does not use your location, contacts, camera or microphone.

10. How long we keep data

  • Your account data is kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account (section 11). Our providers may keep backup copies for a limited time under their own schedules.
  • Data on your device stays there until you delete the app. Signing out removes your sign-in session.
  • AppsFlyer and RevenueCat keep data according to their own retention policies and our settings with them.

11. Deleting your account

  • In the app: go to Profile → Account Settings → Delete Account and confirm. Gattr asks our database to delete your account and the data linked to it, then signs you out. This cannot be undone.
  • Subscriptions are not cancelled by deleting your account or the app. Cancel them in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
  • Guests can't open Account Settings. Sign up with an e-mail address first (your guest data comes with you) and then delete the account, or write to us.
  • If something goes wrong, or you can't access the app, e-mail us from the address linked to your account and we will delete it for you. Tell us if you also want us to ask AppsFlyer and RevenueCat to delete the data linked to your account ID.

12. Children

Gattr is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account or sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent you have given, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

  • In the app: edit your username and photo, choose your privacy setting, edit or delete recipes, folders and meal plans, and delete your account.
  • On your device: turn notifications and tracking on or off, and manage your advertising ID.
  • Everything else: e-mail hello@betelgeuse.studio. We will answer within the time the law requires.

Legal bases (EEA/UK). We process your data to provide the service you ask for (performance of a contract): your account, syncing, imports, nutrition, social features and subscriptions. We rely on our legitimate interests to keep Gattr secure, prevent abuse and measure our own marketing with AppsFlyer, and on your consent where it is required, for example for notifications and tracking on iOS.

We do not sell your personal information.

14. Security

Gattr talks to our servers and service providers over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and access to your account requires signing in. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep it to yourself.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app or in the store listing before the changes apply.
