Castle Boom Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
Castle Boom ("the game") is made by Betelgeuse Studio LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the game uses, why, and the choices you have. We wrote it to be short and readable. If anything is unclear, write to us at hello@betelgeuse.studio.
The short version
- No accounts. You never sign up, log in or give us your e-mail address, phone number or real name.
- Your progress stays on your device. Campaign stars, coins, upgrades, weapons, perks and settings are saved locally.
- Online play is optional. Ranked Duels, Blitz and the leaderboard send a random player ID, the nickname you choose, your castle loadout, your shots and your results to our game server. Nothing else.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, the game asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time.
- Purchases are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not use analytics or tracking tools of our own.
1. Information stored on your device
The game keeps one save file on your device. It contains your progress (campaign stars, coins, blueprints, castle upgrades, weapons and their levels, perks, unlocked worlds, skins and emblems), your Season Pass progress, your trophies and match record, your settings (sound, music, haptics), the nickname you picked, a random player ID, and whether you bought Remove Ads or the Premium Pass.
This file never leaves your device, except for the online data described in section 3. Deleting the game erases it. On Android, the save is excluded from cloud backups.
2. Information we do not collect
The game does not ask for or access your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar or files. It has no chat (online opponents can only send each other a few ready-made emotes), no social login and no friend lists. We do not use analytics, crash-reporting or attribution services.
3. Online features: Ranked Duels, Blitz and the leaderboard
These features only work when you are online and choose to use them (Practice vs AI and Pass & Play work offline). To run them, the game sends the following to our game server:
| What | Why | Visible to other players |
|---|---|---|
| Player ID: a random code created on your device the first time you play. It is not derived from your device's hardware identifiers and is not linked to your name or to any advertising identifier. | Recognises your trophies, rank and match record from one session to the next. | No |
| Nickname: the name you choose in Settings (by default something like "Commander1234"), and the banner emblem you equip. | Shown to your opponents and on the leaderboard. | Yes |
| Trophies and record: your trophy count, best rank, season and win/loss/draw counts. | Skill-based matchmaking, ranked seasons and the season leaderboard (the top 50 and your own rank). | Yes (nickname, emblem, trophies, rank) |
| Match data: the castle you bring (upgrade levels, turret weapons, perks, skin), each turn's move and shot (weapon, angle, power, perk, timing), your live aim while it is your turn, the emotes you send, and the result of each turn and match. | Plays the match fairly: your opponent's game replays your turns exactly, and the server decides turns, timers and the winner. | Your opponent sees your castle, nickname, trophies, shots and emotes |
| Game version | Only players with the same version are matched together. | No |
- AI rival. If no opponent is found within about 12 seconds, you play an AI rival, clearly labelled "AI". That match moves half the usual trophies.
- Please don't use your real name or personal details as a nickname. Offensive nicknames are replaced automatically with a neutral one.
- IP address. Like any internet service, our server sees your IP address while it talks to the game. We use it only to deliver the service and to stop abuse (rate limits). It is not stored with your player ID or match data, and only appears briefly in security logs when a rate limit is hit.
- What the server keeps. Your player ID, nickname and emblem, your trophies (current, best and per finished season), your win/loss/draw counts, and a match history (the two players, the mode, the winner and why, the remaining health, the number of turns and the trophy changes). Shots, aims and emotes are relayed to your opponent and never stored. AI-rival match tickets are deleted after two days. The rest is kept while the online features run, so your record survives app updates and new seasons.
- Where. Our server is hosted in the European Union (Paris, France) by Fly.io.
- Legal basis (EEA/UK): we process this data to provide the online features you ask for (performance of a contract) and, for abuse prevention, our legitimate interest in keeping the service fair and available.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The game is free and shows ads from Google AdMob: a full-screen ad now and then between campaign levels (never before you have cleared six levels, never during an online match) and reward videos that you choose to watch for double coins, a revive, free coins or a free perk. Ads are limited to content rated PG or lower.
To serve and measure ads, and to prevent fraud, Google and its partners may collect information from your device, such as an advertising identifier (the Android advertising ID, or on iOS an identifier that is unique to this app's developer), your IP address and approximate location derived from it, your device model and operating system, and how you interact with ads.
- Consent. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland (and in other places where the law requires it), the game shows Google's consent form (the User Messaging Platform) before any ad is requested. You can accept, refuse or choose specific purposes. If you refuse personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised ads.
- Change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy (the button appears wherever a choice is required).
- On iOS the game does not ask for permission to track you, so your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) is never shared.
- On Android you can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Privacy → Ads).
- Remove Ads. The Remove Ads purchase turns off the full-screen ads for good. Reward videos stay available because you only see them when you ask for them.
Google's use of this information is described in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and in "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
5. In-app purchases
The game offers two optional one-time purchases: Remove Ads and the Premium Pass (the premium track of the Season Pass, for every season). There are no coin packs and no loot boxes. Payments are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive your name, e-mail, card or billing details. The store only tells the game which products you own, so it can unlock them and restore them on a new device (Restore Purchases in Settings or the Shop). Purchases are not sent to our game server.
6. Device permissions
- Internet and network state (Android): to load ads, play online and show the leaderboard, and to know when you are offline.
- Vibrate (Android): for haptic feedback while you play. You can turn haptics off in Settings.
- Billing (Android, added by Google Play Billing): lets the game offer the two purchases through Google Play.
- Advertising ID (Android, added by Google's ads SDK): lets Google use your device's advertising ID, subject to your consent and device settings.
7. Children
Castle Boom is a cartoon artillery game (castles and turrets are blown up; there are no people and no blood). It is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The online features only use a random ID, a nickname, game data and scores, and ads are limited to PG content. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example as a nickname, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA and UK, or the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export the data we hold about you, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
- Delete your online data: e-mail hello@betelgeuse.studio with your nickname and, if you can, the date of a recent online match. We will delete your player record and match history within 30 days.
- Ads: change your consent in Settings → Privacy, or use your device's ad settings.
- Everything else lives on your device: delete the game to erase it.
We do not sell or share your personal information for money, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising ourselves.
9. Security
Data sent to our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS and secure WebSockets). The server stores only what is listed in section 3, with access limited to the people who run the game.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for important changes, tell you in the game or in the store listing before the changes apply.
