Rewritr Terms of Use

These terms are an agreement between you and Betelgeuse Studio LLC ("we", "us") about your use of Rewritr, our iPhone app and keyboard. By using Rewritr, you agree to them. We have tried to keep them short and plain. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what Rewritr sends and stores. If you have a question, write to us at hello@betelgeuse.studio.

The short version

  • Rewritr is licensed to you, not sold, for use on Apple devices you own or control.
  • Use it lawfully. Don't use AI actions to create spam, scams, harassment or anything illegal.
  • AI can be wrong. Review every rewrite before you send it: you are responsible for what you send.
  • Rewritr Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Apple. Cancel it any time in your Apple account settings.
  • Rewritr is provided "as is", within the limits the law allows.

1. Who can use Rewritr

You must be old enough to agree to these terms where you live. If you are under the age of adulthood, a parent or guardian must agree to them for you. Rewritr is not directed at children under 13.

2. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Rewritr on Apple devices that you own or control, as allowed by Apple's Usage Rules. You may not:

  • copy, modify, translate or create derivative works of the app;
  • reverse engineer or decompile it, except where the law allows it;
  • extract or reuse the app's access to AI services outside the app, or resell or redistribute Rewritr.

We (and our licensors) keep all rights not expressly given to you.

3. Acceptable use

Please don't use Rewritr, and in particular its AI actions, to:

  • break the law, or help anyone else break it;
  • harass, threaten, defame or intimidate anyone, or create hateful or sexually explicit content;
  • write spam, phishing messages, scams or malware, or impersonate a person or organisation to deceive others;
  • infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
  • process other people's confidential information that you are not allowed to share;
  • send automated or bulk requests, or get around usage limits or other protections.

AI actions are powered by Google's Gemini API, so you must also follow Google's Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy (https://policies.google.com/terms/generative-ai/use-policy).

4. Your text

You keep all rights to the text you write and to the results you get, as far as the law allows. When you use an AI action, you let us and our AI provider process that text only to deliver the result you asked for, as described in the Privacy Policy. Similar requests from other people may produce similar results.

5. AI output can be wrong

Rewrites and generated text come from an AI model. They can contain mistakes, change your meaning, drop details, add information that isn't true, or use the wrong tone, even when Rewritr asks the model not to. Correct may miss errors.

  • Review every result before you send or publish it. You are responsible for what you send.
  • Don't rely on Rewritr for legal, medical, financial or safety-critical writing without checking it carefully.
  • Undo is a convenience, not a saved history: it is available only right after a rewrite, and can disappear when you edit, move the cursor or close the keyboard.

6. Rewritr Pro

  • What it includes. Rewritr Pro is an auto-renewable subscription, offered monthly or yearly. It includes 500 AI rewrites each month, custom prompts, advanced styles and saved presets, as described in the app when you buy it. Features available without Pro may be limited.
  • Billing. Rewritr Pro is bought through the App Store. The price and billing period are shown before you buy, and payment is charged to your Apple account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Free trials. If an offer includes a free trial, it turns into a paid subscription when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel it. When you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies.

7. Fair use and availability

  • Limits. AI actions cost money to run, so they come with usage limits, such as the monthly allowance included in Rewritr Pro. We may slow down, limit or suspend use that looks automated or abusive, or that puts the service at risk.
  • Availability. AI actions need an internet connection, Allow Full Access and Google's service, so they may sometimes be slow or unavailable. Typing and suggestions keep working without them.
  • Changes. We may update Rewritr's features and the AI model it uses. If we change what is sent, or who receives it, we will update the Privacy Policy first.

8. App Store

Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies to Rewritr. If it conflicts with these terms about your licence to use the app, Apple's agreement takes precedence. These terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Rewritr.

9. Disclaimers

We work hard to make Rewritr useful and reliable, but we provide it "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that Rewritr will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, or that AI output will be accurate.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Rewritr, including from text you send after using an AI action. Our total liability for any claim about Rewritr is limited to the amount you paid for Rewritr in the 12 months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived, or our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.

11. Ending your use of Rewritr

You can stop using Rewritr at any time by removing the keyboard and deleting the app (and cancelling Pro if you have it). We may end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. Sections 4, 5 and 9 to 13 continue to apply afterwards, as far as they are relevant.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the effective date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app or in the store listing before they apply. If you keep using Rewritr after the changes apply, you accept the new terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws that apply where Betelgeuse Studio LLC is organised, without regard to their conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may be able to bring claims in your local courts.
